It's Raining Men...in Amman?

Hello again,

I just wanted to post a little about what I have learned about the Gay community in Amman. Personally I have always been interested in how gay people meet up in the Middle East. Since it is so bad, how can people date and have a relationship? I have determined that it is a lot easier than I really thought.

In Amman, there are certain cafes that are "gay spots". These cafes are Books@Cafe and Cafe Paris. These cafes are owned by gay men. As a result, men can meet there because they know the owner is okay with it.

I'm not exactly sure how well known these spots are. When I tell my host mom that I am visiting these cafes (I'm not gay, I just hang out with different groups of people and gay cafes often double for American cafes oddly) she calls them "American Cafes" and says that she has never been. I find this odd. Surely she must know that they are gay cafes if I do.

The gay scene is very different in Amman. You will not see men making out with other men on the dance floor. It's very different from Straight clubs in that sense as well. The simply sit together, enjoy some drinks and smoke argeelah. Its very classy they tend to be very fun places.

Just some thoughts,
Natalie
